Lakeside Marina Update
Beginning November 1, 2026, the Lorain Port & Finance Authority (LPFA) will assume responsibility for the day-to-day operations and management of Port Lorain Marina.
The marina will remain open and fully operational throughout the transition. Slip holders, boaters, and visitors can continue using the marina as normal, and the public will continue to have access to the mile-long pier and other public areas.
Slip rates and marina fees for the 2027 boating season will remain unchanged. This page will serve as the official source for updates, announcements, and answers to frequently asked questions as additional information becomes available.
Hard removal deadline for the 2026 season is November 1st for slip holders, November 30th for those that have extended for the Fall Brawl.

FAQ
Will current dock holders be able to continue and be assured they have space?
Yes. Current dock holders will be contacted first this fall regarding slip renewals. Slip holders will have the opportunity to reserve their current space before any remaining slips are made available to new renters. If a slip is not reserved by the established deadline, it will then be offered to others.
How will the dock space be addressed if improvements create a shortage of slips?
The proposed improvements are not intended to reduce the number of slips below the current number of slip holders. We anticipate maintaining sufficient space for current slip holders while also providing additional space for transient boaters.
Is it possible to move all charter boats to one dock?
We will take this concern into consideration as we move forward with marina improvements.
Will winter storage be available?
No, we will not be allowing winter storage on the premises.
Will there be trailer storage in the summer?
No.
What is the plan to improve the gas dock?
We understand there is a need for improvement, but we do not have all the answers to this yet. We will continue to keep you posted as we develop this plan moving forward.
What steps are being taken to improve facility safety beyond dock conditions?
We hear you and we are working to develop a comprehensive plan that includes coordination with Lorain Police and City Administration.
How will the Port deal with the trash problem?
The Port has expanded our current trash removal contract to include the marina. This should help to alleviate the issue until the Port is able to have dedicated staff after November 1, 2026.
What checks and balances will be in place to ensure the marina will get reinvestment and not fall into disrepair?
With the Port taking over operations, we will be directly overseeing the reinvestment to the facility instead of by proxy through a private management company.
Will there be changes to marina services or amenities?
Normal marina operations will continue. All future improvements or operational changes will be announced on this page.
Will there be new rules or regulations?
Yes, new rules will be written and adopted. Deadlines for lease renewals and rule adoption will be shared as available.
Will the public still have access to the property?
Yes. All public access will remain as it is currently.
